The big storm

Just after the storm last week the Forestry Commission was in touch asking for an estimate of the impact on our members.  We emailed the membership, the response was fantastic, and it provided a good snapshot of the impact.  Most reported little or no damage  Thanks to all that replied.

New SE coordinator

Our new coordinator for Sussex, Kent and Surrey has been quick off the mark in organising members events in his patch.  The first of his events is near Heathfield this Saturday.  I'll be there too.  Contact philtidey@smallwoods.org.uk for more info.

Deer day in Hatfield

Last Sunday saw a group of Members, with a few deer stalkers, on a one day course looking at deer identification and impact assessment in Hatfield Forest.  The day was led by David Hooton of the Deer Initiative (see http://www.thedeerinitiative.co.uk/).

The course notes includes a useful table looking at signs of deer impact on a range of broadleaves, which I thought I'd share with you-
